These are things I have done in my first grade:
~ I have students taste red, yellow, and green apples.
~ We graph our favorite:

This activity is called "Apples A Peel _____" and is in the AIMS: Fall Into Math & Science book.

Each student colors an apple cutout of their favorite apple.
We make a large class graph and then students make their own graph.
~ We make applesauce in a crockpot. I usually have these apples peeled and sliced. (I have also used an apple peeler and had the kids turn the wheel. You will need parent volunteer help for this. This takes a lot more time!) The students add sugar and cinnamon. Very little water is needed! We do this in the morning and it needs to cook all day. Stir frequently to chop up the apples. Cool, and enjoy in the afternoon!! The other students have an apple book about apple facts to do while the teacher or a parent volunteer calls each student up to add sugar and cinnamon and stir.
~ We write in our special events books: I liked the applesauce. I didn't like the applesauce.
~ We also taste other products made from apples.
~ Red Hot Baked Apples:
1. Wash whole apple and ream out core with apple corer or knife.
2. Slice off bottom so apple will sit flat in electric frying pan.
3. Fill core with cinnamon red hots.
4. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
5. Bake in covered electric fry pan at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
6. Cool 10 minutes
7. Eat and enjoy!
~ Do a seasonal study of the apple tree.
