We read the book The Biggest Pumpkin Ever by Steven Kroll.

This is a good book for the fall season. Two mice fall in love with the same pumpkin, and one takes care of it by day, and the other takes care of it at night. As a result, the pumpkin grows very, very large. They discover what is happening one night when they bring blankets to protect the pumpkin from an early frost. They decide to work cooperatively, and enter the pumpkin in a contest and also carve it into the "biggest jack-o-lantern" ever.

I made a huge pumpkin out of bulletin board orange paper and then traced around
it to make a second one of the same size. I then cut one into 24 puzzle pieces.
Students each had a puzzle piece to write how they would take care of their pumpkin.
They drew a picture on the puzzle piece to illustrate their writing.
It was fun getting the puzzle pieces back in the right place!!
