At the end of first grade we have an animal unit.
We also do a fun, mini unit on dinosaurs.

Dinosaurs

(Tune: "Pussycat, Pussycat")

Dinosaurs, dinosaurs,
Where have you been?
I've only seen you
In books that you're in.
Dinosaurs, dinosaurs,
Why aren't you here?
I want to know what
Made you all diasappear!
Dinosaurs, dinosaurs,
How you would roam!
Forests and beaches
Were your private home.
Dinosaurs, dinosaurs,
How you could eat!
Dining on plant life
Or dining on meat.
Dinosaurs, dinosaurs,
Where did you go?
Once you were giants,
And how you did grow!
Dinosarus, dinosaurs,
What made you die?
So many guesses,
But no one's sure why.

~Meish Goldish

Ten Big Dinosaurs

One big dinosaur paddling in the sea,
Two big dinosaurs munching from a tree,
Three big dinosaurs sharpening their claws,
Four big dinosaurs opening their jaws,
Five big dinosaurs swimming in a flood,
Six big dinosaurs making tracks in mud.
Seven big dinosaurs hiding eggs in sand,
Eight big dinosaurs coming in to land,
Nine big dinosaurs running fast for fun,
Ten big dinosaurs basking in the sun.
Dinosaurs are all extinct,
They died out long ago,
But scientists have found their bones,
And put them out on show.

Long, Long Ago

Long, long ago,
When the earth was new,
Dinosaurs walked,
and swam, and flew.
Allosaurus,
Triceratops,
Apatasaurus, too.
Iguanodon,
Tyrannosaurus,
To name a few.
Long, long ago,
When the earth was new,
Huge dinosaurs lived,
And small ones too.

Dinosaur Action Song
(Tune: "This Old Man")
Dinosaur, touch the floor.
Shake your tail and give a roar.
You're the finest looking dinosaur that I have ever seen.
Please come sing and dance with me.

Dinosaur, show me four.
Turn around and face the door.
You're the finest looking dinosaur that I have ever seen.
Please come sing and dance with me.

Dinosaur, stretch once more.
Go to sleep, but please don't snore.
You're the finest looking dinosaur that I have ever seen.
Please come sing and dance with me.

Tune: "Do Wah Ditty"
Here he comes just a stomping with his feet singing,
"Dino ditty, ditty dum, ditty do."
Searching all round for something good to eat singing,
"Dino ditty, ditty dum ditty do."
He's huge, (He's huge), He's strong, (He's strong.)
He's huge, he's strong, won't be hungry very long.
"Dino ditty, ditty dum , ditty do."
"Dino ditty, ditty dum, ditty do."

Dinosaur

Dinosaur, dinosaur,
Tramping all around.
Dinosaur, dinosaur,
Their bones are all we found.
Dinosaur, dinosaur,
Lived so long ago.
Dinosaur fossils
Tell us all we'll ever know!

Dinosaurs

What kind of skin did a dinosaur wear?
Did it have some feathers?Did it have some hair?
What were the colors it wore in those days?
Were they bright reds and pinks?
Or cool blues and grays?
How did it feel to touch dinosaur skin?
Was it bumpy and thick? Or slick, smooth, and thin?
How do we know what a dinosaur wore?
We imagine and color- that's what crayons are for!

Stegosaurus

I'm a Stegosaurus and oh my, I'm quite a sight,
I have bony plates upon my back so I can fight.
My plates, they help protect me and give creatures quite a fright,
I eat lots of trees and flowers to soothe my appetite.
I'm Stegosaurus, but gee whiz, I'm pretty nice.

Unfortunately

Dinosaurs lived so long ago
they never had a chance to know
how many kids would love to get
a dinosaur to be their pet!

~ Bobbi Katz

Dinosaurs

(Tune:"Row, Row, Row Your Boat")
Great Big dinosaurs
Lived so long ago.
Some liked land, and some liked water.
Some flew in the air.

Great big dinosaurs
lived so long ago.
Some had horns, and some had spikes.
Some had wings like bats.

Great big dinosaurs
Lived so long ago.
Some ate plants, and some ate meat,
But now there are no more.
