Mister Seahorse

I'm A Seahorse
(to the tune of "Alouette")
I'm a seahorse,
Yes, I am a seahorse.
I'm a seahorse,
I live in the sea.
I suck shrimp through my long nose.
It works sort of like a hose.
My long nose,
My long nose,
Like a hose,
Like hose.
Ahhh...
I'm a seahorse,
Yes, I am a seahorse.
I'm a seahorse,
I live in the sea.

We have been studying about animals and students have become really excited
about ocean animals. We did tissue paper collages modeled after the seahorse
on the front of Eric Carle's book Mister Seahorse.
Students chose the colors they wanted and then used watered down glue to apply
them to the construction paper seahorses. They cut them out and glued them to
blue construction paper. We added the poem above and a story summary on the back.
What fun! The kids loved this!

Mister Seahorse
By Eric Carle
Summary:
After Mrs. Seahorse deposits her eggs into the pouch on
Mr. Seahorse's belly, he floats through the water and
notices many other fish fathers who are also caring for
eggs and baby fish. They include Mr. Stickleback who is
guarding the eggs in his nest, Mr. Kurtus who carries the
eggs on his head, and Mr. Tilapia who keeps the eggs
snug in his mouth. Along the way, Mr. Seahorse sees
several other kinds of fish. Among them are trumpet fish,
lionfish, leaf fish, stonefish, pipe fish, and bullheads.
