Each student has a poetry folder. This is a 3 prong folder.
These can be bought in an assortment of colors before school
starts for 10-20 cents apiece.

a place for students to write their name. You can paste it
onto the front of the poetry folder but I used it for the first
page in their folders. Then, students illustrate the outside
of the folder, so that they can easily recognize their own.
These can be kept in a tub for easy access.
Poems are monthly, seasonal, theme related, or student created.
Students can illustrate the space around the poems.
My poems are slightly skewed to the right to allow for punch holes.
These are already 3 hole punched, so they can put them
in their folders. Students can be shown how to do this right away
at the beginning of the year one-on-one with a para educator or
in a small group. It is worth the extra time to put this "ownership" on them.
Soon they can do it easily by themselves!
