Have a Beautiful Summer!

Enjoy your summer! There are lots of things that
you can do, so that you learn through the summer.

~Read! Read! Read!

You can do lots of reading this summer to get ready for second
grade. You can read chapter books, read the road signs on your
vacation, and read anything else you see. Go to the Public Library
and get a library card. You can check out many books on a topic
that interests you like dinosaurs, snakes, or ladybugs! Check out
books by your favorite author or authors that we read about this
year. Read books to your little sister, brother, teddy bear, or pet
turtle! Reading is fun!

~Write! Write! Write!

You can keep a journal of all the things you do this summer.
Write a story and share it with your family. Make a book and illustrate it.
Write a poem and think about having it rhyme. Write a letter to someone
special and see if they write to you. Experiment with using water colors,
colored pencils, or magic markers for your illustrations. Writing is fun!

~Keep Math Fun!

Keep practicing those addition and subtraction basic facts. You can
surprise your second grade teacher by showing her how well you know
these. Do lots of problem solving. Draw pictures to illustrate your problem
and tell how you got your answers. Take surveys and tally your results.
Make a graph from your information. Make patterns. You could do a great
quilt at home this summer. Math is fun!

~Experiment With Science!

Be an observer and investigator. What are some things that you
notice around you? Do you see anything growing or changing?
You can continue to study about insects in your backyard!
Notice the weather going on this summer. Think about our summer
season. Nature is wonderful!

~Imagine and Create!

Use your imagination to build something new. Ask your mom & dad
for old scraps to have fun with building a new creation.
Fill your days with creative fun!
**Remember to buy lots of glue!

~Have Fun Doing!

Go to the swimming pool and have fun in the water. Ride your bike.
Play baseball or soccer. Ride on your skateboard or scooter.
Remember to do all of these things safely! Race around the house
or block with your mom, dad, brother, sister, or dog. Do some gardening
with your parents. Only pull the weeds! Have fun in the wonderful outdoors!

~Eat lots of ice cream! Yummy!

Enjoy your summer!
